Know your wood
Oak
Fireplace · fire pit
Post oak and red oak, the backbone of a Texas woodpile. Dense, slow, steady heat with coals that hold overnight. If you're only buying one wood, buy oak.
Pecan
Smoker · fireplace
Burns clean with a sweet, nutty smoke that's gentler than mesquite. The pitmaster's choice for pork and poultry, and a fine-smelling fireplace wood besides.
Mesquite
Grill · smoker
The flavor of Texas barbecue. Hot, fast, and bold; the wood for brisket, fajitas, and anything that goes over direct fire. A little goes a long way.
Hickory
Smoker · wood stove
The hottest, longest-burning wood on our board. Classic bacon-and-ribs smoke flavor, and dense enough to keep a wood stove working all night.
Mixed Hardwood
Fire pit · budget heat
Oak, elm, and ash from our week's tree work, all properly seasoned. The working man's load: honest heat at the best price on the board.

Straight answers
What exactly is a rick?
A rick (or face cord) is a stack of split wood 8 feet long and 4 feet tall, one log deep, cut to about 16-inch lengths. Three ricks make a full cord. It's the standard way firewood is sold in Texas.
What does "seasoned" mean?
Wood that has dried at least 9 to 12 months after splitting, down to roughly 20% moisture. Seasoned wood lights easier, burns hotter, and doesn't coat your chimney in creosote the way green wood does. Ours is split and stacked at the yard until it's ready.
Can I pick it up myself?
Yes. The board prices are yard-pickup prices at 1606 Etain Rd in Irving. Call ahead and we'll have it pulled, wrapped, and ready to load.
Do you sell cooking wood in small amounts?
We do. Smoker-cut pecan and mesquite chunks come in $25 boxes, and bundles start at $10. You don't need to buy a cord to cook one brisket.
Where does the wood come from?
From our own tree work around DFW. When we remove an oak or trim a pecan, the good hardwood comes back to the yard, gets split, and seasons for the next winter. Nothing wasted.
